The Society for Experimental Mechanics is a student-run organization at the University of Illinois for students interested in mechanics. While our society is closely associated with the Theoretical and Applied Mechanics department, we welcome members from all majors on campus.

If you have ever asked yourself:

- How can I apply what I've learned to real problems?
- When and where can I apply what I've learned to real problems?
- What am I going to say when someone asks "so what have you done?" in an interview?
- How can I get in touch with upperclassmen interested in mechanics?
- How can I get in touch with professors interested in mechanics?
- Who are all these cool kids in the Society for Experimental Mechanics and how can I hang out with them?

then our society is for you. We are a project-based group. Most of our meetings revolve around planning, designing, and finally constructing experiments and demonstrations. You can find out more about our current projects on the Projects page. We produce these projects both for our own amusement (/to learn about mechanics) and for the annual Engineering Open House.

If you are interested in joining, our Contact Us page has contact information for our officers, as well as information about joining our mailing list.
